Failure of Oil Well Drill Casing
During a routine hydrotest of a section of high strength steel drill casing in an oil well, the hydrotest plug separated from the casing causing a personal injury. APTECH performed an in-depth failure analysis of the casing pipe. This involved making detailed dimensional measurements of the thread region, strength measurements, chemical analyses, and metallurgical evaluations of a crack in the threaded region of the pipe. APTECH provided expert opinion regarding the relative contribution of the features which caused the failure.
